The inspiration behind Ronin comes from a deep respect for mastering a craft, living a life of service and valuing everything equally. The term Ronin refers to wandering or masterless samurai, who still maintain Bushido - a term for the collective moral virtues upheld by samurai. These virtues are justice, courage, benevolence, politeness, honesty, honour, loyalty and character. Jer felt a strong connection between this ethical code, his ancestry and the work he was doing in the community. From this starting point, Ronin has become a place the community can rely on for compassionate, non-judgemental guidance. Ronin helps families through the mediation process while keeping a focus on the kids and driving towards real solutions that make sense.
Our favourite Uncle Jer, esq. is the bold and rebellious leader of Ronin. Obsessed with mastering his craft, Jer is highly qualified as a mediator, arbitrator and parenting coordinator in the areas of both family law and child protection. He is a rostered child protection mediator with Mediate B.C. and has additional training through the Ministry of Attorney General of British Columbia and ADRIC. Additionally, Jer has arbitration training through ADRIC and is a member of AFCC (Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Washington Chapter) and Family Mediation Canada. Jer is consistently one of the top mediators for child protection, is the co-chair of the indigenous advisory board and regularly speaks at events held by CLEBC and the Core Clinic. We value and appreciate Jer for his unique sense of humour, his empathy and his incredible openness that makes space for everyone who crosses his path. He is a proud member of the Okanagan First Nation and was given the name Quee’em T’xun by his grandfather; it means "frosted tops of the mountains". Jer also has a deep love of food and community connections - he is always available to listen and help.
Lisa is the business-focused mind that keeps the team organized behind the scenes. With over 20 years of experience in everything from sales & marketing to relationship management, Lisa is exceptional at keeping the ship sailing smoothly. We value and appreciate Lisa for her strong communication skills, leadership abilities and her bright personality that makes everyone feel welcome. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UBC, with a concentration in psychology, which means she likely knows what you’re thinking and why at any moment. She also wants everyone to know that she beat Jer on the Canada-wide Pascal math exam in high school. She was #2 in the school, and he was #3. Not that it’s a competition ;).
